Recently, JLL’s Damon Melda, was featured in an article in U-T San Diego where he discussed his quarterly Microbrewery Tour that he hosts. A handful of tech startup CEOs, CFOs and some investors are invited to have fun, talk about beer and business. The tour allows him to bring people together with similar interests and gives him the opportunity to build some trust in the community.
“If people think, ‘I could work with this guy for a year on a real estate project’, that’s great. Plus it’s an interesting and fun way to get people out of the office.”
Rather than the traditional networking event where everyone is selling the business, Damon created a platform that promotes casual, fun conversation and also provides value. This method is a great way to do that, says Al Bsharah (co-founder and CEO of the tech startup Embarke).
Bsharah also points out that the people he’s engaged with the most from a business perspective are those who have shown value before he’s engaged with them; noting Damon as being one of those people.
“Clearly they want business down the road, but they’re not pushing business and instead doing things that help people and the community” -Al Bsharah
