Tony RussellCongratulations to JLL San Diego’s managing director Tony Russell for being selected as one of San Diego Metro’s 2015 40 Under 40. The 40 Under 40 Awards recognition program is a group of professionals who have made outstanding contributions in their careers and to San Diego as a whole.

Throughout his 14 years as a commercial real estate broker, Tony has established himself as one of San Diego’s top brokers. He has handled more than six million square feet of lease and sales transactions with a value exceeding $1 billion. Tony represents his clients in all phases of negotiation and real estate brokerage, including pre-leasing new construction/ground-up development, build-to-suits, repositioning assets and investments. He distinguishes himself from his competitors by helping to reposition assets – often high-profile, Class A office properties – not just through marketing assets but also through design. Having studied architecture in college, he brings a unique perspective to help his clients and their architect teams understand and communicate about what changes will appeal to prospective tenants and suit the properties.

He is a member of JLL’s nine-person, high-powered landlord agency team and leads the marketing for several of San Diego’s most prominent office projects, including The Aventine, Sorrento Towers, Paseo Del Mar, The Point and Rio San Diego Plaza. He works with several of the largest institutional office property owners, including Arden/GE, Blackstone, Black Rock, Prudential, Union Investment and TIAA-CREF.

Tony came to JLL five years ago to help build the firm’s landlord representation team. In that time, he and his team have built one of the highest-profile office leasing teams in San Diego, based upon the quality and size of assets represented.

Tony has been actively involved with several charitable organizations, including MARSOC Foundation, Boys and Girls Club and Baja Challenge. Tony serves on the Board of Directors of NAIOP and was on its committee that organized and planned a black tie gala that raised more than $250,000 for the MARSOC Foundation. The MARSOC Foundation was established to provide benevolent support to active duty and medically retired MARSOC (special operations) personnel and their families as well as to the families of Marines and Sailors who have lost their lives in service to our Nation. Tony has also participated in the Baja Challenge, helping to build homes for the less fortunate and helping raise funds with which to do so.  In addition, Tony has supported the Boys and Girls Club through financial donations and is actively involved with the schools of his two children.

Tony has also been instrumental in helping to advance his industry through service with professional organizations. In 2010, he served as president of Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) – San Diego and has served in other capacities on their board ever since. He also serves on the board of directors for NAIOP and co-leads the programs committee, which produces evocative events designed to educate and challenge commercial real estate professionals. He is also past president of Developing Leaders, NAIOP’s young professionals group.

Tony’s awards and honors include:

  • JLL San Diego office and company-wide Top Producer – 2012, 2013, 2014
  • SDDT’s Young Influentials – 2014
  • Grubb & Ellis BRE Commercial No. 1 broker company-wide in number of transactions in 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2009
